Christian concert to benefit Neches Project Graduation

PALESTINE — Organizers of the Neches High School project graduation event are hosting a fundraiser concert featuring two up-and-coming Christian rock performers — solo artist Three J and band Kindred.

The Exit 12 concert will begin at 7 p.m. Saturday, April 21 at the Palestine Civic Center with a meet-and-greet with the artists at 6 p.m.

Opening the concert will be Palestine resident, barber and Christian hip-hop performer Three J (also known as BJ Flippo).

“Three J is a local guy with a calling for the Lord as well as a great guy,” concert organizer Kelli Perry-Colon said. “Three J is... talented and is on his way, once the right person is around to hear him.”

“Kindred,” is a Christian rock and contemporary band from the Lufkin and Nacogdoches area frequently compared to the band “Flyleaf” and Christian solo artist Natalie Grant.

The band played a Nashville showcase called “Band With A Mission” early in 2011, opening the door for them to sign with PopGun Productions and begin a new journey.

Band members include lead guitarist and backup vocalist Joey Cefalu, drummer Jacob Hines, bass and keyboardist Dustin Herres and lead vocalist Erica Evans.

“Both these bands are doing this for Neches’ Project Graduation to help us raise funds for the Class of 2012... and we want to thank them both very much,” Colon said. “We also want the community to come out and support this.

“It’s a great way to fellowship and to have something positive for the youth in Neches, Palestine, Elkhart as well as the surrounding areas.”

The 6 p.m. meet-and-greet will give locals the chance to meet the artists, get pictures and autographs with them prior to the concert.

“Kindred will be going on tour this summer, so what a great opportunity to see them here in Palestine and to get up close and personal with them as well as Three J,” she added. “The artists are totally different in the type of music they play but will appeal to a wide range in the crowd.”

Advance tickets are $12 and available at Cavender’s, 98.3, the Palestine Civic Center, Three J’s Barber Shop and Shep’s Bar-B-Que. Tickets at the door are $15 and group tickets are $10 each (for groups of 20 or more).

A concession stand will be available and concert t-shirts will be sold at the concert as well. Orders are being taken for Exit 12 t-shirts (so they can be worn to the concert) for $12 each. Call 903-394-0569 to order.
