City of Palestine to host breakfast for veterans

PALESTINE — The City of Palestine is hosting a breakfast for all veterans on Friday, Nov. 9 in honor of the upcoming Veteran’s Day holiday.

The breakfast will be served from 8 to 9 a.m. at the Palestine Civic Center.

“This event is Palestine’s ‘thank you’ to all that are serving our nation and to all of us who have served,” Vietnam Veterans of America Chapter 991 President Allan Ayo said. “Please help get the word out to all veterans and service personnel.”

All nursing homes and assisted living facilities in the surrounding counties are asked to see that their veterans get the opportunity to attend the breakfast, Ayo said. Spouses are invited to attend.

Two speakers are planned for the breakfast — retired U.S. Army Col. James Wallace of Tyler will be the keynote speaker. Sgt. Guadalupe Medina, who is actively serving at the Tyler Army recruiting station, also will speak.

Following the breakfast, all veterans are invited to Dogwood Trails Assisted Living in Palestine for a program with the Heritage Foundation Children and a lunch to be served to all vets.

“With Veterans Day coming up on Nov. 11, these two events are great tributes to start our Veterans Day Weekend,” Ayo said.

The Palestine Civic Center is located at 1819 W. Spring St. at the intersection of Loop 256 and Spring Street. Dogwood Trails Assisted Living is located less than a quarter of a mile from the civic center at 1625 W. Spring St.
