PALESTINE — Palestine police are investigating the armed robbery of a local convenience store that occurred Sunday night, in which the suspect got away with an undetermined amount of money.

According to reports, officers responded to the armed robbery call at the Kwik Stop No. 1, located in the 3800 block of W. Oak St., at approximately 8:10 p.m. Sunday.

Arriving within minutes, officers were advised that a subject had entered the store armed with a handgun, committed the robbery and exited with an unknown amount of money at the rear of the store.

“At the time of the incident there was a single employee on duty inside the establishment,” PPD Lt. James Muniz said. “The employee was not injured during the incident and was able to talk with police and give a description.”

The gunman was described as a black male wearing a red t-shirt with a design on the front, dark-colored shorts, brown boots and a ski-type mask over his face. The male appeared to be 5’10 to 6’0 tall and weighed approximately 180 pounds.

“Police searched the area behind the store but did not locate anyone in the area,” Muniz said. “Officers were able to view the store’s security video to try and identify the suspect. The video showed the male as he entered the store with a gun in his right hand.

“There has been no positive identification of the gunman at this time,” Muniz said.

The Palestine Police Department is asking that anyone with information concerning this or any other crime please call the Palestine Police Department at 903-729-2254 or Crime Stoppers at 903-729-8477.
