Palestine Police Department officers are continuing to investigate a three-vehicle wreck at the intersection of Loop 256 and Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard on Friday afternoon that killed one person and injured two.
“We are still looking into what caused the vehicles to come together at the same place in the intersection,” PPD Sgt. James Muniz said.
The crash, involving a green Ford Windstar minivan, a silver Ford Fiesta and a tractor-trailer, occurred at about 3:30 p.m., with Palestine Police Department officers, Palestine Firefighters and EMS responding to the scene.
According to preliminary reports, the Fiesta was preparing to turn right in the eastbound right turn lane on MLK as the minivan was crossing Loop 256 headed westbound on MLK.
The tractor-trailer, headed south on Loop 256, hit the minivan pushing it into the Fiesta before turning sideways on the side of the Loop.
Willie Torquille, 63, of Chandler, a passenger in the Ford Windstar minivan, died at the scene. Two other people were injured and transported to Palestine Regional Medical Center — one of whom appeared to be severely injured.
