Book lovers won’t want to miss the chance to stock their book shelves at the Palestine Library Friends’ book sale Saturday at the Palestine Mall.
The book sale will be held from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Gently used hardback and paperback books will be available for purchase with prices ranging from 10 cents to $1.25.
“This sale is the perfect opportunity for you to find gently used, bargain books that you won’t feel guilty about accidentally losing at the airport or leaving at your relative’s house,” Library Friends board member Ruth Davis said.
All proceeds benefit the Palestine Public Library. The Friends use the proceeds for the library and have paid for furniture, shelves and programs, for example.
Gardening lecture set Tuesday
The Anderson County Master Gardeners Association will host the Lynn O’Daniel Lecture Series on organic gardening Tuesday.
The lecture will be held at 10 a.m. in the Ben E. Keith Community Room, located at 2019 W. Oak St. in Palestine.
The speaker will be Mike Mugavero of Athens Organic Supply. Mugavero and his wife Mandy have been the owners of Athens Organic Supply since 2003.
“Our emphasis on Tuesday will be organic vegetable gardening since the trend has been for more and more families desiring to become self sustaining, and avoiding harmful chemical in the foods they eat,” Mike Mugavero said. “Our mission is to share the knowledge and experience we have gained so far, and to hopefully make a difference in our community, one garden, one lawn, or one family farm at a time. Going organic can be easier and cheaper than one might expect. The major benefit is a safer and healthier way of growing your own vegetables.”
The Mugaveros have researched and tested products for the past 10 years to find the best and most economical ways to grow things naturally.
“We are convinced that no synthetic chemicals are necessary to have a successful vegetable garden, lawn, landscape or farm,” Mike Mugavero said.
The lecture will be hosted by the Anderson County Master Gardeners. For more information, call 903-764-0073.
