The Texas Area Fund Foundation kicked off its newest program — The Action Fund — Thursday evening at an event hosted in the home of Francis and Cad Williams.
The Action Fund Chair Ahnise Summers rolled out the new concept of a giving circle. Summers explained giving circles are defined as pooling funds in order to leverage gifts for greater impact in the community. With a goal of $50,000 for 2013 the newly formed group has raised $24,600 to date. Also, four generous donors have contributed an additional $100,000 to The Action Fund’s Endowment to secure the future of the organization.
“Our community is what we make it. Our responsibility is to make it the best that it can be,” Summers said.
The fund was formed in response to community focus groups expressing their concerns for community issues and community solutions. Summers extended an invitation to the community to join The Action Fund.
“Please join us as a partner in helping us grow opportunities that allow all who live and work in our community to thrive,” Summer said.
The focus areas of The Action Fund are: Education, Human Services, Preservation and Beautification, and Arts and Culture.
“You have an opportunity to join with friends, neighbors and local businesses who share common goals for enhancing the quality of life in our community,” added Jackson Hanks, president of TAFF. “We will be working with our non-profit community in support of projects that fall within these for focus areas. Each year members of The Action Fund will have the opportunity to cast their vote on projects supported by the organization.”
TAFF board member David Barnard encouraged those in attendance to join The Action Fund.
“With your help, our partnership in The Action Fund can sustain and grow the philanthropic spirit in our community. It will empower us to reach beyond today and plan for greater opportunities tomorrow. This is our time!” Barnard said.
The Action Fund Executive Committee is comprised of Summers, Chair; David Barnard, Linda Dickens, Freta Parkes, Allyson Mitchell, Dorenda Smith, Cad Williams and Jackson Hanks, TAFF board president. Parkes and Mitchell are serving as the Grants Committee Co-Chairs.
