PALESTINE — The national tour of the Tony award-winning Broadway musical, Fiddler on the Roof is coming to Crockett for one night only — on March 6 at 7:30 p.m. at the Crockett Civic Center.

As part of the Piney Woods Fine Arts Association 2012-13 series, the classic Broadway musical has been lauded by critics again and again, and won the hearts of people all around the world.

Filled with popular score, which includes “Tradition,” “Matchmaker, Matchmaker,” “If I Were A Rich Man” and “Sunrise, Sunset,” Fiddler on the Roof is deemed by many to be a timeless classic.

“No other musical has so magically woven music, dance, poignancy and laughter into such an electrifying and unforgettable experience,” a press release stated.

When it opened in 1964, Fiddler on the Roof spawned four Broadway revivals, a successful 1971 film adaptation and has enjoyed enduring international popularity ever since.

Fiddler on the Roof was the winner of nine Tony awards, including best musical, score, book, direction and choreography.

Fiddler on the Roof is based on the story “Tevye and his Daughters” by Sholem Aleichem. The story takes place in Czarist Russia in 1905 and revolves around the main character, Tevye and his five daughters as he struggles to maintain his Jewish and family traditions. Tevye must cope with his strong-willed daughters’ choice of husbands as well as the edict from the Czar that Jews be evicted from the village.

This show is presented by the Piney Woods Fine Arts Association with KIVY/KMVL Radio, County Life, Houston County Courier and Messenger and sponsored by Brookshire Brothers.

Tickets for this event start at $22 and are available from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Monday through Friday at the Piney Woods Fine Arts Association office, located at 603 E. Goliad in Crockett. Monday through Friday or online at
