PALESTINE — Need some new reading material?

The Palestine Library Friends will holds its spring book sale from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday in the Palestine Mall — selling hundreds of gently used paperbacks and hardbacks.

Prices range from 10 cents to $1.25.

“This is a great opportunity for members and the community alike to come browse through one of our largest inventory of books,” Palestine Library Friends Board President Jeremy Janz told the Herald-Press. “If you take the time to look through the books, you can really discover a treasure.”

Besides numerous paperbacks of all genres — including hundreds of romances, book lovers can find cookbooks, historical books, sci-fis, thrillers, mysteries, self-help, crafting books and even Cliff Notes, encyclopedia sets and old National Geographic magazines. There's also a children's section.

“We would love to make a very good deal — an amazing price — to someone who is interested in the encyclopedia sets,” Janz said.

Willowcreek Chiropractic & Wellness Center will offer assessments and chair massages for a donation to the Palestine Library Friends.

All proceeds benefit the Palestine Public Library. Events such as National Library Week and Adult Summer Reading Club are made possible through the funding raised by the Palestine Library Friends. Other items the organization has helped pay for include the library's new signs on the exterior of the Palestine Mall, above the library’s front entrance doors, and above the computer lab.

Christian bikers plan event

The Redeemed Riders of the Christian Motorcycle Association will hold a barbecue plate fund-raiser, as well as a bake sale and a bike blessing on Saturday. At least 30 motorcyclists participated in last year's event and organizers are hoping for even more this year.

The event will be held from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. at H&W Honda, located at 1534 U.S. 79 East.

Barbecue plates with sausage and/or brisket will be sold for donations only along with chips, drink, cookie or cupcake. The bike blessing will be given over the riders and their bikes.

“This benefits our annual Run for the Son to benefit our four missions,” member Kathy Moore said. “Come and be blessed. It's for a good cause, spreading the word of God.”

This year marks the 50th year the Azalea Belles have greeted guests along the Azalea & Spring Flower Trail in Tyler. To celebrate organizers want to get all former Belles together for a reunion.
