PALESTINE — The public will have the opportunity to take the advantage of several free health screenings and talk to health professionals during the 10th annual Community Health Fair slated for Friday.
The Palestine Resource Center for Independent Living will host the health fair from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at Evangelistic Temple, located at 3011 N. Loop 256 in Palestine. The event is open to residents in Anderson County and surrounding areas.
“Last year we had more than 600 fair attendees and we hope to have that many and more this year,” PRCIL Executive Director Sara Minton said.
Screenings will include:
• A1C (for those whose blood sugar tests over 150)
• Blood Pressure
• Blood Sugar
• Body Mass Index (BMI)
• Bone Density
• Carotid Ultra Sound
• Children’s Asthma Assessment
• HIV & Hepatitis C Testing

• MyoVision Spine Scan
• Oxygen saturation stats
• Peripheral Artery Disease (PAD)
• Prostate Specific Antigen (PSA)
• Skin Cancer
• Sleep Disorder
An “Ask The Doctor” panel is planned at 10:30 a.m. with Dr. Robert McFarlane, Dr. Vimesh Akotia and Dr. Russell Packard. At 2 p.m, Dr. Akotia will discuss colon cancer.
Other health fair activities will include “Talk with the Doctor” sessions with Dr. R. Coleman Gray and Dr. Savitha Shastry, a blood drive, chair massages, Distracted Driving Simulator, Drunk Driving Simulator, Hand Wax Therapy Treatment and a walk-through colon cancer display.
