Do you know if your child is properly secured in his/her safety seat or booster seat? According to statistics from the Texas Department of Transportation, four-out-of-five safety seats are used incorrectly.
In order to help parents protect their children, a child safety seat and booster seat check-up event is planned from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday in Palestine. The event will be held at the Anderson County Courthouse Annex, located at 703 N. Mallard St. in Palestine.
“We would like to ensure that parents and guardians with children ages newborn to 8 years old properly secure their child while riding in vehicles. So bring your child along with their safety seat to the Anderson County Annex on Saturday,” TxDOT Traffic Safety Specialist Wanda Bowie Ealey said.
Does your child’s safety seat:
• Move when you stop or turn a corner?
• Seem too small or large for your child?
• Allow your child to get out?
• Just not fit right?
The check-up event will help parents learn how to choose the right safety seat for their child, properly secure the child in the safety seat, properly secure the safety seat in the vehicle, and if needed, graduate your child to a booster seat.
The event will be conducted by the Texas Department of Transportation and KidSafe at Hillcrest, a program of the Regional Trauma Services at Hillcrest Baptist Medical Center.
