Chamber banquet offers up craft brew experience

Tickets still available for Oct. 19 event

PALESTINE — Sniff, swirl, sip — that process isn’t just for fine wines anymore!

Patrons of Saturday’s “Palestine Pairings” banquet will get to see for themselves just how well a good craft brew can go with anything, from hot links to jalapeno lime marinated shrimp on skewers. Eight local restaurants will pair their signature appetizer dishes with eight special craft beer brews during the Palestine Area Chamber of Commerce’s annual membership banquet.

Tickets are still available too, but they’re going fast with only seven days left until the event, which will be held from 6 to 10 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 19. Tickets are $45 per person or $85 per couple. Proceeds from the banquet support the Chamber’s activities and services through the year. Call the Chamber to reserve tickets, 903-729-6066.

“Our annual banquet is the highlight of our chamber year. I think it will be a fun evening with music, games and a chance to sample food from some of our local restaurants,” Chamber Executive Director Marc Mitchell said in an earlier interview. “We anticipate another large year. We’ve had a very good response and have already sold a lot of tables.”

During the banquet program, the Citizen of the Year, Ambassador of the Year and Business of the Year awards will be presented to members of the community. A special Lifetime Achievement Award also will be presented.

Event coordinators said the evening would start at 6 p.m. with the appetizer pairings, music and silent auction; dinner and program is to start at 7 p.m.; after dinner, dancing, games and bidding on items offered during the silent auction will begin around 8 p.m.

Participating restaurants are Bishop’s Brisket House, Contemporary Catering, Little Mexico, Don Mario’s, Switch, Oxbow Bakery and Toni’s Petals & Parties. Featured brews include a German Rye, a Baltic Porter, an Indian Pale Ale, a German Pilsner, a Belgian Lambic, a Fimosa, an Imperial Stout and an English Summer/Blonde Ale.

So how do you choose the best brew for your banquet?

“The basic rule of thumb holds true for both beer and wine, in that lighter fare is generally best matched with lighter libations,” the website, states. “However, while wine is typically paired with contrasting flavored foods, beer is best served with complementary flavors.”
