PALESTINE — An Elkhart man remained in the Anderson County Jail on Thursday after his Wednesday arrest for his role in an Aug. 17 burglary that occurred at a local convenience store.

According to Sheriff Greg Taylor, officers responded to an alarm at the Kim’s No. 6 convenience store, located on Texas 19 in Elkhart, at about 1:41 a.m. on Aug. 17.

“The suspect had broken the glass door and stole a large (but unknown) amount of cigarettes,” Taylor said. “After reviewing video surveillance of the crime, investigators were able to identify a suspect.”

Elias Martin Prieto, 18, of Elkhart was arrested without incident by Anderson County Sheriff’s Office Sgt. Investigator Ronnie Foster at a residence in Elkhart on a burglary of a habitation warrant.

Prieto’s bond has been set at $35,000.

“We are looking into more suspects in this case and in other local burglaries that might be related,” the sheriff said. “Anyone who has any information about this or any other crime is urged to contact us (at 903-729-6068) or Anderson County Crime Stoppers (at 903-729-8477).”
