Breakfast with Santa, Christmas parade set Saturday

Palestine Herald-Press

PALESTINE — Christmas will come to life Saturday in Palestine with two big events — Breakfast with Santa and the annual Christmas Parade of Lights.

Children of all ages are invited to attend the City of Palestine’s Breakfast with Santa from 8:30 to 11 a.m. at the Palestine Civic Center.

“This year we have Santa’s personal chef coming to make this breakfast unforgettable. We will have a variety of sweets and eats, games and activities,” City of Palestine Event Coordinator Heather Hrebec said.

Tickets ($10 per person) are on sale at the Palestine Civic Center, Palestine Visitor Information Center and City Hall. Children ages 2 and under will eat free.

Parents are encouraged to bring their cameras to take photos of the children with Santa. Holiday stories, sing-a-longs, crafts and more are planned.

The Christmas Parade of Lights will start at 7 p.m. at the Anderson County Courthouse square with the theme “Christmas in Toyland.”

The route will be a little different than in the past — after leaving the courthouse square, the parade procession will proceed down  Avenue A, to Main Street, turn right on Queen Street, turn right on Lacy Street and return to the courthouse square — where Santa Claus will greet children and activities are set.

Check-in, required for all participants, will be at the corner of  Church and Crawford streets beginning at 6 p.m.

“The City of Palestine is teaming up with the county to make the holidays bigger and better in Palestine. You will see more decorations, more participation and more activities than in the past,” Hrebec said.

“Deejay Casey Brown with CMB Music will be on hand playing Christmas music to get you in the mood. Santa will be at the courthouse after the parade and all children can visit with him for free — so don’t forget you cameras,” she continued. “We will have activities for the children to participate in, and we will count down the lighting of the courthouse square. What a great way to kick off the holiday season.”

Parade entry forms can be picked up and returned to the Palestine Visitor Center, 825 W. Spring St., Palestine City Hall, 504 N. Queen St. and the Palestine Civic Center, 1819 W. Spring St. or faxed to 903-723-1597.

Parade entry forms must be turned in today. To have a form e-mailed to you, call 903-723-3014 or 903-723-2026.
