Living Alternatives, a local pregnancy help center, is seeking assistance from the community in providing new or used baby beds for children of the clients they serve.
The beds are provided to the mothers through a program at the center called “Building Blocks.”
“Building Blocks teaches pregnant teens or parents to be effective loving moms and dads by challenging them to set and reach life goals and create stable loving environments for their child or children,” Living Alternatives Executive Director Amber Parks Hyatt said. “The program allows parents to earn points for achieving goals in their personal plans of action by attending classes on a weekly basis, completing home assignments, attending church and completing a Bible study.”
Living Alternatives of Palestine is a nonprofit corporation established in June 1998 that provides pregnancy counseling, parenting classes, spiritual counseling and abstinence education in local schools all free of charge.
Last month, the center saw 121 clients total, with 16 of those being new clients. Of those new clients, 13 were pregnant or had an infant under a year of age.
“Your donation can provide a baby with a bed that might otherwise go without,” Hyatt said. “Please help provide a baby with a bed for this Christmas.”
Living Alternatives accepts gently used baby items and monetary donations as well. Its baby store consists of anything a new mother could need for a baby, including diapers, clothes, formula, car seats and baby beds.
Donations may be brought to 1002 S Magnolia St. (in the same building as WIC) from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Monday through Thursday.
