PSJL's Nutcracker Tea to see sold out crowd Saturday

PALESTINE — The Palestine Junior Service League is once again bringing the popular holiday ballet, “The Nutcracker” to life this weekend as they host the second annual Nutcracker Tea fundraiser event.

Tickets are already sold out for the tea, which takes place at 10 a.m. and again at 2 p.m. Saturday at the historic Carnegie Library Building, located on Queen Street in front of Palestine City Hall.

The event features traditional tea party fare, including scones, sandwiches and, of course, tea, with hot cocoa available for those who prefer it. Every table will be served.

Local dance companies — Academy of Dance and Steps of Faith will perform outside the building, weather permitting, and a Sugar Plum Fairy will entertain guests indoors.

In addition to the tea, each guest will be given a ticket to the “Land of Sweets,” featuring lots of treats and sweets prepared by Lulu Events with Style.

“Everything at the tea revolves around ‘The Nutcracker,’” Palestine Junior Service League member and event co-chair Dana Mathews said.

Mathews co-chairs the event with fellow PJSL member Lauren Gregory.

The PJSL will be selling Nutcracker-themed ornaments and other items during the tea, and photographer Jennifer Willard will be taking souvenir photos for guests.

“We spent a lot of time this year fine-tuning the tea,” Mathews said, “But are planning some big changes in the next few years.”

According to Mathews, the tea serves as a fundraiser for the PJSL’s Reagan Park Project, started by the organization just a few years ago.

“We still have a lot of plans for Reagan Park,” Mathews said, “and funds raised from the tea help fund those projects.”

Sponsors of the tea include: Palestine Junior Service League, Lulu Events with Style, Ann Emigh Catering, O’ Sweet Pea, Jennifer Willard Photography, Bella Photography, City of Palestine, Palestine Painted Cookie, Palestine Herald-Press, Academy of Dance and Steps of Faith Dance Center.
