Organizers are currently working on bringing the 2nd Annual Frost Fest to life in Palestine — celebrating the holiday season in a unique way, by bringing all things snow and ice to the Piney Woods of East Texas.
This include a snow tubing slide, ice skating, historic home tour, “Freeze Your Buns” 5K and more during Frost Fest events from Friday, Dec. 6 to Sunday, Dec. 8.
“The 110-foot snow tubing slide promises to be a huge attraction for fun seekers of all ages and will draw not only local families, but also many new visitors to Palestine from the entire Piney Woods region,” Chamber Executive Director Marc Mitchell said. “The slide will be conveniently located in the heart of historic downtown Palestine, and will have real snow and ice! This event will bring families into our community, and help to create holiday memories.”
The snow tubing slide will be open on Dec. 7-8.
Back by popular demand, and working in conjunction with the City of Palestine, ice skating will be available once again.
“This was such a popular event last year,” Mitchell said. “We’re excited that there will be an ice skating rink again this year.”
Ice skating will be open Dec. 6-8.
New this year is the “Freeze Your Buns” 5K.
“Last year we started small with a Fun Run and received many requests for a 5K. This event is co-sponsored by Palestine Regional Medical Center and the YMCA,” Mitchell said.
The race is scheduled for 9 a.m. Dec. 7, and the course has been USATF certified. The cost to run is $20 and includes a t-shirt. Race day registration is $30, and a t-shirt is not guaranteed. Registration is now open for the “Freeze Your Buns” 5K on the Frost Fest website.
The Hearth & Tinsel Historic Tour of Homes will take place from 3 to 6 p.m. Dec. 7. This year’s tour will feature five homes, and participants will be shuttled to the homes via an old time trolley. Tickets for the tour are $20, and can be purchased at the Palestine Chamber of Commerce office.
A free “Frosty Family Flix” family movie is planned from 6 to 9 p.m. Dec. 6 in downtown Palestine.
“It is going to be in downtown as well across from the skating rink. We are encouraging people to bring lawn chairs, blankets, etc.,” Mitchell said.
Other Frost Fest events include peddlers, stained glass tours, entertainment, kids zone, Christmas decorating contest, gingerbread contest, beard contest, downtown walking tours, a “Frosty’s Mug” Beer Garden sponsored by Ben E. Keith, and much more.
