Warming Up: Hot Pepper Festival to feature JB and The Moonshine Band

PALESTINE — JB and The Moonshine Band is one of more than a dozen acts that will be coming to Palestine later this month to make the music-centric 2013 Hot Pepper Festival the “Hottest Little Festival in Texas.”

The Hot Pepper Festival is scheduled for Friday, Oct. 25 and Saturday, Oct. 26 in the historic Palestine Main Street District. Events will include a hot pepper eating contest, arts & crafts, unique food vendors, farmer’s market, barbecue and chili cook-off, kid’s zone, Hot Pepper Express Parade, beer gardens, live music and more.

“This festival is great for all ages,” Palestine Event Coordinator Heather Hrebec said. “There will be exhibits, demonstrations and not to mention festival favorites such as fried candy bars, red-velvet funnel cake and a variety of salsas.”

The Barbecue & Chili Cook-Off will kick off Oct. 25 in The Hollow in Old Town Palestine and continue into Saturday. Live music for Friday includes Slip, Tumble, Trip, The Bigsbys and up-and-coming artist, Diedre Thornell, winner of the Texaco Country Showdown.

The fun will continue at 10 a.m. on Oct. 26 with the Hot Pepper Express Parade through historic downtown Palestine. Live music will start at 10:45 a.m. and end at 11 p.m. that evening.

This year’s music lineup boasts over a dozen acts, all of whom take their respective turns onstage during the festival weekend. There are oldies, newbies, local favorites and something for everybody including Molly and the Ringwalds, six-time winners of the Houston Press Music Award for “Best Cover Band.”

JB and The Moonshine Band’s 2012 album “Beer for Breakfast” charted on the Billboard Top Country Albums Chart. The popular country group will perform at 9:30 p.m. Oct. 26 at the Chili Pepper Stage in downtown Palestine.

“There’s nothing better than a big festival in a small, Texas Town,” City of Palestine Mayor Therrell Thomas said. “The Hot Pepper Festival in Palestine is definitely something you will want to add to your list of yearly traditions.”
