'We've got Annie!': Palestine Community Theatre presents 3 weekends of popular musical

PALESTINE — One of America’s most beloved musicals, “Annie,” is back and giving a whole new generation the chance to experience this classic musical about never giving up hope.

The Palestine Community Theatre will stage this timeless tale of Little Orphan Annie, directed by Chaundra Dantin, at the historic Texas Theater for three weekends beginning Friday, July 19.

The PCT will host its Opening Night Gala beginning at 6:30 p.m. Friday, July 19. The reception is sponsored by Lott-Safford Wealth Management UBS Financial Services Inc., with complimentary hors d'oeuvres and East Texas-made wines from Sweet Dreams Winery. The curtain will open at 7:30 p.m.

In the depths of the 1930s, Annie, played by Hannah Weber, is a fiery young orphan girl who must live in a miserable orphanage run by the tyrannical Miss Hannigan, played by Sonia Martinez.

Her seemingly hopeless situation changes dramatically when she is selected to spend a short time at the residence of the wealthy industrialist, Oliver Warbucks, played by Jim Vincill. Quickly, she charms the hearts of the household staff and even the seemingly cold-hearted Warbucks cannot help but learn to love this girl. He decides to help Annie find her long lost parents by offering a reward if they will come to him and prove their identity.

“You will laugh, and you will cry!” a PCT news release said.

Show dates are July 19-21, July 26-28 and Aug. 2-4. Shows on Fridays and Saturdays start at 7:30 p.m. and Sunday matinees start at 2 p.m.

Tickets are $8 for students and children ages 4 to 18 and $12 for adults. Tickets can be purchased at Dogwood Diner, the Palestine Area Chamber of Commerce and Education Unlimited. Tickets also can be purchased online at www.outhousetickets.com.

The Texas Theater is located at 213 W. Crawford St. in downtown Palestine.
