Two-car head-on collision on U.S. 79 East

PALESTINE — A two-vehicle head-on collision around 6:30 p.m. Saturday on U.S. 79, 3 miles east of Palestine, sent at least one person to the hospital with serious injuries.

According to an eyewitness, one person was ejected from one of the vehicles and transported to Palestine Regional Medical Center by ambulance.

A maroon passenger car remained on the roadway following the wreck, while a green SUV reportedly flipped and ended up in the ditch off of a small bridge in a grassy area on U.S. 79.

The accident stopped traffic on the highway in both directions for more than an hour while investigators examined the scene.

Further information about the wreck was unavailable as of press time Saturday night.
