PALESTINE — The Palestine Police Department’s Drug Enforcement Unit seized over a pound of drugs and arrested a local man during the execution of a warrant at a city residence on Wednesday.

After receiving information that drugs were being sold from a residence on the 1700 block of North Queen Street several weeks ago, members of the DEU began surveillance on the residence.

“Many vehicles were seen going to the residence staying for a short time and leaving,” PPD Sgt. James Muniz said. “Police were also able to make several undercover purchases from the residence.”

Police obtained a search warrant for the residence, and at about 5:40 p.m. Wednesday, the Anderson County Sheriff’s Office Tactical Unit breached the door there.

During the search, police arrested Reginald Crawford, 56, of Palestine and seized over a pound of marijuana, approximately 25 grams of crack cocaine and small amounts of other drugs — with an estimated total street value of around $5,000.

“A female subject also was detained at the scene and later released,” Muniz said, “as police had no real evidence to tie her to the residence.”

According to Muniz, the investigation into this residence is ongoing and others may be charged as a result of the drug seizure. The DEU also has other investigations that are ongoing, with more arrests possible in the future.
