Areas groups, churches host Easter egg hunts

PALESTINE — A very colorful hunting season kicks off this weekend in Anderson County with plenty of businesses, organizations and churches hosting Easter egg hunts this Saturday and Sunday.

Kicking off the weekend is First United Methodist Church in Palestine by hosting its annual Easter egg hunt and festival at 10 a.m. today on the church grounds, located at 422 S. Magnolia St.

Activities include egg hunts for toddlers through age 4; ages 5 through 8; and ages 9 through 12. Face painting, inflatable slide, bounce house and games as well as free hot dogs and snow cones are included in the event.

Also today, a free community-wide Easter egg hunt will be held from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. at Willie Myers Park, located at Dorrance and Montana streets in Palestine.

The event includes games, prizes and food. Those attending are asked to bring baskets, pails, bags and blankets to sit on.

Other events taking place today include:

• The Ladies Auxiliary Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 3907’s Annual Easter Egg Hunt, 10 a.m., 3800 W. Oak St. in Palestine.

• Walmart Supercenter Easter egg hunt, 10 a.m., behind the store.

• Texas Vineyard & Smokehaus’ inaugural Easter Egg Hunt for all ages, 1:30 p.m. at 2442 CR 2133 in Palestine. Features more than 1,000 eggs and prizes. Races will be held every 15 minutes. For more information, call 903-538-2950.

• Walston Springs Baptist Church community-wide egg hunt, 2 to 4 p.m., for children ages 4 through 12. Prizes will be awarded. Refreshments will be served. The church is located at 1789 FM 2419 approximately 1 mile off of U.S. Highway 287/19 South.

• Faith Temple Ministries Inc. annual Community Celebration Weekend, 10 a.m., at 686 N. U.S. 75 in Fairfield. Activities include an Easter egg hunt, volleyball tournament, sack racing, egg coloring contest and other games. Free barbecue, free clothes and free prizes.

• Memorial Missionary Baptist Church free hamburger and hot dog cookout and Easter egg hunt, 4 p.m., at 115 FM 1817 in Elkhart.

• Cayuga Assembly of God Church Treasure Hunt, 4 to 6 p.m., at the church, located on U.S. 287 and FM 59 in Cayuga. There will be free hot dogs, chips and drinks and three age groups.

Sunday events include:

• First United Methodist Church of Elkhart Easter egg hunt, 2 p.m. at the church, located at 202 E. Parker St.

• First Presbyterian Church of Palestine Easter egg hunt, 10 a.m. at 410 Avenue A in Palestine.

• Freedom Fellowship Church Easter egg hunt, 10 a.m. at 125 Kickapoo St. in Palestine.

• First Christian Church of Palestine Easter egg hunt, at about 1 p.m. at 113 East Crawford St.

• The Antioch Church community Easter egg hunt, about 12:30 p.m. at 907 E. Murchison St. in Palestine.

Sunday sunrise services include:

• Faith Temple Ministries Inc., 686 N. U.S. 75 in Fairfield, 6 a.m.

• New Fellowship Christian Church, 1500 W. Reagan St., 6 a.m.

• Memorial Missionary Baptist Church, located at 115 FM 1817 in Elkhart, 6:30 a.m.

• Pilgrim Church in Elkhart, 7 a.m. Travel west on Texas 294 in Elkhart, turn left on 319 and turn left on 861. Coffee and refreshments will be available.

• Slocum First Baptist Church, 5875 E. Texas 294, 7 a.m. Breakfast will follow the service

• Walston Springs BC, 1789 FM 2419, 7 a.m.

• Sheridan Terrace Baptist Church, Loop 256 W. at U.S. 79 S. in Palestine, 7 a.m.

• Holy Ground Worship Center, located on U.S. 84 one mile from Loop 256, 7:30 a.m. Breakfast will follow.

• Montalba Community Center, Texas 19 South, 7:30 a.m. A potluck breakfast will follow.
