PALESTINE — Students on the campus learned all week about what community service means and how to develop good community spirit.

“This is the second year we’ve done this,” Northside Instructional Strategist Jodie Wade, the event coordinator, said. “The kids really have a good time learning about being good community helpers.”

Representatives with the Palestine Fire Department, Palestine Police Department, Crockett Police Department, Palestine Regional Medical Center and EMS, the Palestine Post Office, Palestine Independent School District’s Maintenance and Transportation Department and the Texas Department of Public Safety were also on hand Thursday morning with assorted emergency response vehicles and other equipment they use on the job including PRMC’s am-bus and ambulance, a fire truck, a tractor, a school bus, a mail truck and two police cars.

Students got to tour each vehicle — and honk the horn of at least one — and learn about how they and their crews help in emergency situations.
