PALESTINE — Two local groups donated checks this week to help offset the cost of bringing the traveling replica of the Vietnam Memorial Wall to Palestine.
The Cost of Freedom Tribute, which is 80 percent the size of the original Vietnam Memorial Wall in Washington, D.C. and contains every name on the original Wall, will be on display at the Texas State Railroad’s Palestine Depot from May 22-26, 2014.
The Disabled American Veterans Chapter 63 of Palestine donated $2,500 and the Vietnam Veterans of America Dogwood Chapter 991 donated $5,000. Both groups are still trying to raise the remaining $7,500 needed.
The Wall will be the featured element of the 16th Annual Salute to the Armed Forces event at the Texas State Railroad. In addition to The Wall the event also will showcase military re-enactment groups, living history exhibitors, static military displays, military support groups and much more.
Other events planned include children’s activities, food vendors, and a special train schedule for visitors to enjoy that day.
