A 73-year-old Palestine woman injured in a house fire was life-flighted to Parkland Hospital in Dallas for treatment Friday night.
Palestine Fire Department firefighters responded to the scene of a house fire reported at 9:41 p.m. Friday at 2 Rambling Road — located at the corner of Rambling Road and Highland Drive just off Crockett Road.
“The backside of the house was fully involved. We had two engines attacking the fire and another on patient care for the lady until the ambulance got there to take care of that,” PFD Batallion Chief Earnest Crawford said. “We had the fire under control in about 15 minutes. We just left the scene right before midnight making sure the hotspots were out.”
According to Crawford, the woman, whose name has not been released, was laying down in front of the home when the fire department arrived.
“The next door neighbors that called 911 were trying to assist her as much as they could,” Crawford said.
Due to her injuries, which were unknown as of 1 a.m. Saturday, a Trinity Mother Frances Hospital Flight for Life helicopter landed on Crockett Road near the intersection of Highland Drive and Rambling Road. A portion of Crockett Road near the scene was temporarily closed in both directions from about 10:30 to 11 p.m. Friday.
The cause of the fire is unknown at this time, but the Palestine fire marshal will be investigating the scene, Crawford said, noting that the home was a total loss.
“A couple of extra (PFD) guys that were off duty also assisted us with the fire,” Crawford said.
The PRMC ambus was utilized at the scene to treat the patient prior to being life-flighted.
The Palestine Police Department and Texas Department of Public Safety assisted the fire department in traffic control.
