Palestine Herald-Press

PALESTINE — BARC, The Humane Society will hold its annual BARCfest at Davey Dogwood Park this year, featuring disc dog and agility demonstrations as well as an adoption fair for shelter dogs.

The event will be held Saturday, Oct. 5, starting at noon at Davey Dogwood Park, located off North Link Street.

“We moved the location of BARCfest to Davey Dogwood Park this year, hoping families will come out and spend the day” BARCfest coordinator Pam Smith said. “You can bring a picnic and lawn chairs or set up at one of the picnic tables close to the pavilion.

“Concessions also will be available.”

Former “Greatest American Dog” contestant Bill McFarlin and his dog, The High Flying Z, from Bullard, will give disc dog demonstrations.

Terry Dyck  and her students from CM Streek Agility Training Center will give agility demonstrations.

“Need some dog training tips? Ask Bill or Terry about any dog training question you have. Both promote positive training methods,” Smith said. “Need some exercise? Take a family hike on the trails or on the paved roads.”

Dogs can be brought to BARCfest as long as they are current on vaccinations, social and on a leash.

“Our shelter staff will be there showing off shelter dogs looking for loving homes. Bring lawn chairs and a picnic!” Smith said.

Admission is a donation of choice.

“Come on out and join the fun, all to benefit the homeless dogs and cats in Anderson County!” Smith said.
