The body of an unidentified man was discovered Tuesday under a local highway bridge.
Texas Department of Transportation mowing crews found the body around noon today under the Neches River bridge on U.S. Highway 79, at the Anderson-Cherokee county line.
Anderson County Sheriff’s Office detectives continue to investigate the incident, and are seeking the body’s identity. The body was sent to a Tyler facility for an autopsy to determine cause of death, officials with the ACSO said Tuesday afternoon.
Investigators said the body looked like it may have been under the bridge for “a few days.”
Anderson County Justice of the Peace James Todd told a local television affiliate that the mowers spotted the body “before hitting it with the mower.”
The Department of Public Safety and Texas Rangers are assisting in the investigation.
Anyone with any information concerning this incident can call the Anderson County Crime Stoppers at 903-729-8477. Crime Stoppers will pay up to $1,000 for information leading to an arrest. Callers do not have to leave their name, and all calls remain confidential.
