The Dogwood Circle will be well represented this week at the University Interscholastic League state track meet at Mike A. Meyers Stadium on the University of Texas campus in Austin.
There are seven athletes and a relay team from the area that will be competing in the state meet. Three of those athletes will be competing in two or more events.
Elkhart has two runners and a relay team that will compete in the Class 2A meet Saturday.
Martisa Carwell qualified in four events — the high jump, 100- and 200-meter dashes and the 1600 relay. Carwell will be joined on the relay team by Elise Davis, Celsey Rodgers and Rachel Teetz.
Elkhart’s Rebecca Jensen will be heading to Austin for the third straight year. Jensen will be running in the 3200 Friday and the 1600 Saturday.
Slocum has a pair of runners heading to Austin Saturday in the Class A meet. Otis Lackey will be running in the 800 and Logan Foster will compete in the 1600.
Also competing in the Class A meet Saturday will be Grapeland sprinter Javontae McCoy in the 100.
Cayuga’s Jamie Hope makes her third straight appearance in the Class A state high jump. She will be competing Friday evening.
Fairfield’s Gavan Bass qualified for two events in the Class 3A meet Friday. Bass will be in the long jump and the 100.
