AUSTIN — Elkhart senior Martisa Carwell found success at the state track meet as she will bring home two medals after the Class 2A meet Saturday at the Mike A. Meyers Stadium on the University of Texas campus.
The Lady Elk senior will bring both silver and bronze back to East Texas after she took second in the 200-meter dash and was part of the third-place 1600 relay team along with teammates Elise Davis, Celsey Rodgers and Rachel Teetz.
In the 200, Carwell finished with a time of 25.12 seconds. Lexington's Elysia Farwell won the race with a time of 24.66.
The Elkhart relay team finished with a time of 4:02.51, which broke the previous school record of 4:03.56.
Carwell also competed in two other events Saturday, finishing fourth in the 100 with a time of 12.32 seconds and seventh in the high jump with a leap of 5 feet.
Elkhart's Rebecca Jensen also ran in the state track meet, finishing eighth in the 3200 with a time of 6:25.55.
As a team, Elkhart finished tied for eighth place with 24 points.
In the Class A state track meet Saturday, Slocum's Otis Lackey added another state medal to his collection.
After receiving a silver medal in last year’s meet, Lackey took third in the 800. The Slocum senior finished with a time of 2:00.34 and was within .01 seconds of the second-place finisher.
Slocum's Logan Foster competed in the 1600 and finished fifth with a time of 4:43.93 .
Grapeland freshman Javontae McCoy also competed in the state meet, finishing eighth in the 100 with a time of 11.28 seconds.
