Piranhas have success in second meet
The Palestine Herald
Staff Reports
The Palestine YMCA Piranhas continued their season with the second second East Texas Summer Swim League meet at the Lehmann Swim Center in Nacogdoches last weekend.
Britni Haley continued her impressive gold-time standard run which began at the June 13 Lufkin Time Trials. The motivated swimmer spent this last week training at Texas A&M during the university’s annual summer swim camp.
“We swam three times a day,” Haley said. “ We swam for endurance in the morning and in the evenings we worked on the strokes with drills. It was humbling, but I had fun.”
The hard work paid off as Haley trimmed nearly a second from her backstroke and breaststroke times. All together, she placed fifth in 50-yard freestyle (30.73 seconds), third in 50 backstroke (36.74), and second in 50 breaststroke (38.45).
Teammate Taylor Edwards also delivered a fine showing with two firsts and a sixth in the silver time category in 50 backstroke (41.65), 50 butterfly (39.59), and 50 freestyle (34.64). She finished second in the bronze group in 50 breaststroke ( 49.03).
“ I can’t believe how quickly the season is moving,” coach Kathrine Newton said. “We will be back in Lufkin this Saturday. I am proud of the way the swimmers are stepping up to the challenge during practice and during competition.”
