Ladycats look to turn program around

Hamilton excited about new leadership

The Palestine Herald

By SALLY SEXTON

H-P Sports Writer

After going winless in district last season, the Palestine Ladycats are looking to turn things around on the volleyball court.

With 32 girls showing up for the first week of practice and most of them juniors and sophomores, Palestine head coach Lisa Hampton was optimistic about her team.

“We are a young, young group,” Hampton said. “The girls are very energetic and enthusiastic, so I don’t think the youth is going to affect us that much.”

With four seniors on the team, Hampton will look toward her three returning lettermen for leadership.

“Shelby Alvarez, Natalie Ahee and Linsey Whittington are all coming back from last year,” Hampton said. “We’ve got some pretty good leadership on this team.”

Throughout the week, the Ladycats have worked on fundamentals, conditioning and passing drills during practice.

“The biggest thing for us is our positive attitude,” Hampton said. “There is a lot of hustle going on in practice and we want to win.

“We are looking to change things around for this Palestine program.”
