Local Roundup: Palestine boys capture 7th-straight cross country district title


CAYUGA 3, Cross Roads 0

The sixth-ranked Cayuga volleyball team wrapped up its fifth-straight unbeaten district season Tuesday, sweeping Cross Roads 3-0 (25-7, 25-10, 25-11).

Danielle Anderson led the Cayuga attack with 13 kills and also had three blocks, while Shawnta Knox had 10 kills and five aces.

Cory McCulloch finished with 11 digs, while Molly Griffey tallied 31 assists.

The Ladycats have two tough upcoming warm-up games scheduled, beginning Saturday against Class 3A No. 14 Carthage. The match will be at Cayuga beginning at 1 p.m.

Cayuga will then face 3A’s 11th-ranked team, Van, in Van Tuesday at 6 p.m.

ELKHART 3, Crockett 1

The Elkhart volleyball team wrapped up its regular season Tuesday with a 3-1 (25-19, 25-22, 19-25, 25-11) win over Crockett.

The Lady Elks finish play in District 19-2A at 8-2, with their only losses coming to Westwood.

Courtney Cheatham led Elkhart with nine kills and also had two kills, Robin Grant had six kills and Ryan Grimsley had four.

Paige Huff finished with 18 assists, while Tiffany Rosas had a team-best six aces.

Catie Bridges added three aces while Laramie McAdams, Courtney Lindsey and Huff each had two.

The Lady Elks are waiting on their first round playoff opponent to be decided.
