PALESTINE — After three years leading the Palestine football team on the defensive side of the ball, defensive coordinator Ty Robinson is leaving the Wildcat Program.

Robinson tendered his resignation Friday to PHS athletic director Lance Angel. He has been hired as the new athletic director and head football coach at Class 1A, Division I Yorktown.

"I think anytime somebody has a chance to go better their career, it doesn't always happen in the time we want it to happen," Angel said. "We wish the best to Ty and we know he'll be great there."

Robinson came to Palestine from Overton in 2010 after serving as the Mustangs athletic director and head football coach.

Along with his defensive coordinator duties with PHS, Robinson served as the program's de facto recruiting coordinator, helping get Palestine players in front of college coaches.

Angel said he didn't have an official replacement lined up to take Robinson's spot as of yet, but did say the coaching position would be filled.

He added that a promotion for a coach currently on staff wouldn't be out of the question, but outside candidates were also possible.

"We always want to look in staff first to be loyal to the guys on staff," he said.
