The Cayuga boys’ basketball team took home third-place at the Tenaha Holiday Hoops tournament Saturday, and got some revenge in the process.
The seventh-ranked Wildcats topped Tenaha, 65-58, to claim third-place. Tenaha has ended each of the past two seasons for Cayuga in the regional semifinals.
Preston Anderson had a game-high 29 for Cayuga, while Deon Shofner had 15 and Chandler Rigdon added 12.
Cayuga (11-4) hosts Madisonville Thursday, with games beginning at 6 p.m.
WESTWOOD 65, Crockett 62
The Westwood boys basketball team finished third in the Lovelady Christmas tournament, beating district rival Crockett, 65-62, in the third-place game behind double-digit scoring from four players.
J.J. Turner had 16 points and Dra Ross had 12, while both Josh Denby and L.J. Hutchison added 11 for the Panthers (12-6), who fell in overtime to Grapeland, 62-58, in the semifinals.
In that loss, Westwood got 20 points from Chris Thompson and 16 from Turner, while Jacoby Newton added six.
Westwood resumes district play Friday when they travel to Central Heights to take on the Blue Devils. Games begin at 5 p.m.
H.S. GIRLS BASKETBAL
SLOCUM 65, CAYUGA 54
Valerie Larkin and Jordan Ives each scored 16 points, and for the second time in a month Slocum topped Cayuga, 65-54. The win earned the third-ranked Lady Mustangs the fifth-place trophy at the Tenaha Holiday Hoops tournament.
Landry Lane added 13 points for Slocum in the win, while Kelsee Webb had 10. Stats for Cayuga were not available at press time.
Slocum (19-1) travels to Latexo Friday for action, while Cayuga hosts Elkhart at noon today.
