PALESTINE — GRAPELAND — The Sandies also are coming off a great win at home.

They beat Cushing last Friday by a score of 14-6. Coach Shawn Brown said the team has come closer together this season.

“Any win is a great thing,” Brown said. “It being district makes it that much more. This win allows us to stay up with the district and keeps playoff hopes alive. We have grown as a team this season. The effort and discipline has, and continues to improve. We are far from a finished product, but we are making progress.”

This week, Grapeland will face Alto, who beat Grapeland last season, 36-12.

This season, anything can happen in the game this week for the Sandies, especially with it being at Grapeland.

“Alto is a solid team with tremendous tradition,” Brown said. “They will come in heavily favored.”

OAKWOOD — The Panthers will face High Island at home on Friday. Last season, Oakwood beat the team 54-8.

The Panthers picked up their second win of the season last week on the road.
