H.S. Football: Game Balls for Week 9 - Two 6-TD performances from local players

PALESTINE — In Week 9 of football action, Cayuga and Elkhart both saw one of their running backs go for six touchdowns.

Cayuga beat Cross Roads and Elkhart beat Westwood as both teams are eyeing a playoff spot.

Jackson’s name has come up in these Game Balls multiple times and deservedly so.

Cayuga got back on the right foot against a tough Cross Roads squad, winning 67-14.

The blowout win was thanks in most part to the running ability of the Wildcats.

Jackson finished the game with 20 carries for 186 yards rushing and six touchdowns.

The Cayuga offensive line also can be credited for Jackson's performance on the field Friday.

Also in the game, Jalyn Wilson had a solid game on defense to help the Wildcats, with six total tackles and an interception.

Jeffery Wilson of Elkhart receives a Game Ball this week for having a sensational game against Westwood in which Elkhart won 55-21.

Wilson’s touchdown runs of 55, 19, 1, 35, 35, and 4 yards were the main key to Elkhart’s success.

Another key component to Elkhart’s success was the defensive play of Gaje Smock.

The senior linebacker had an outstanding 22 tackles on the night with one of them being for a loss.

The combination of Wilson and Smock, as well as the offensive line and the rest of the defense, helped the Elks clinch a playoff spot for the first time since 2004.

The Palestine running game also put up a good performance on Friday night in the 32-13 win against Mexia.

Running backs Jarrell Owens, Ben Luckett and Devonte Mims and quarterback Gee Clark all scored on the ground for the Wildcats in the win.

Owens also had a passing touchdown to wide receiver Sheldon Watson for the first score of the game for the Wildcats.

With the win, Palestine received the No. 1 seed in the playoffs for its division.

The Wildcats will faceoff with Fairfield in the last game of the regular season.
