PALESTINE — ELKHART — The Lady Elks volleyball season came to a dramatic close on Saturday night in Bullard as they lost a tough match against Troup in straight sets, 25-13, 29-27 and 25-21.
In the first set, Troup came out firing with its girls up front getting kill after kill.
Elkhart wasn’t able to stop the barrage, and Troup went on to easily take the first set.
In the second set, the Elkhart fans started to chant louder and harder and the Lady Elks fed off their energy and battled Troup to extra points.
It took 29 points to win the second set, and Elkhart was making Troup fight till the end.
The third, and what ended up being the final, set showed the true passion that the Lady Elks had for the season.
The Lady Elks fought Troup and had another back-and-forth set taking it down to the wire, but it eventually just wasn’t enough as the Lady Elks lost the third set, and ultimately the match, 25-21.
“The team fought hard until the end,” said Lady Elks coach Katie Lankford. “These girls never gave up and they fought till the bitter end and that’s all that I can ask for out of them.”
In the loss, there were still a few players who played well and had great nights.
Paige Huff led the team with eight assists and also tacked on an ace in the match and Robin Grant was able to put up 12 kills and four blocks. Lankford said that she was proud of how her team was able to come out of Saturday night’s match and was especially proud of the performance that it showed.
“Robin played an amazing game tonight,” Lankford said. “Everybody played well. I think we were up and down at some points, but that’s going to happen sometimes.”
