PALESTINE —

A full 32 minutes wasn’t enough to decide a victor in Thursday morning’s matchup between the Westwood Panthers and Bullard at the East Texas Shootout tournament, taking place in Brownsboro this week.

The Panthers couldn’t finish in overtime as they lost to Bullard 68-60, but Westwood coach Scott Nettles said the performance was promising.

“We scored first in overtime and we had some decent looks,” Nettles said. “They were just able to get to the free throw line and made their free throws. We just weren’t able to knock down the open shots.”

Westwood (2-9) gets a chance to redeem itself in the tournament today when they face either Malakoff or Pine Tree at 1:30 p.m. against the loser that game.

Both Westwood and Bullard played a close match the entire game, which was shown in the scoring by quarter.

Bullard outscored Westwood 17-14 in the first quarter followed by two quarters of even play at 11 in the second and 15 in the third before Westwood came out in the fourth quarter and was able to outscore Bullard 16-13 and send the game to overtime.

Westwood’s top scorers in the morning matchup were Damontrey House and J.J. Turner, both scoring 16 points with Sam Carlisle putting up 14 as well.
