Palestine Herald-Press

Each year, the Palestine Herald-Press prints local players who have done the best throughout the previous season.

This year, the Dogwood Circle area was honored to have three players nominated to the All-State team.

Mi’Kayla Benson from Westwood was named to the Class 2A All-State team.

Her dominating performance for Westwood this season helped guide the Lady Panthers into the playoffs and make it the furthest any Westwood team has ever gone — the Regional tournament.

Benson finished the season with 386 kills, a .325 hitting percentage and also had 411 digs.

Cayuga’s Danielle Anderson and Cory McCulloch were named to the Class 1A All-State team, providing a huge one-two punch for the Ladycats throughout this past season.

Anderson finished her season with 402 kills, 54 blocks, 256 digs and 69 aces, and was named as 2013 District MVP.

McCulloch also had a solid year with 398 digs and 39 aces, and was also named to the 2013 District Defensive MVP.

Westwood’s Janae Evans earns Coach of the Year honors for her team’s performance this past season.

Westwood went undefeated in district play and made it to the Regional round of the playoffs, which is the furthest any Westwood team has ever made it.

Her coaching and positive attitude throughout the season is what allowed her team to be successful and for her to win this award.
