H.S. Softball: Elkhart, Westwood softball teams earn District honors

PALESTINE — District awards are an honor for high school athletes to receive because they recognize the players who have been voted on by the coaches who have done well throughout the previous season.

For both Elkhart and Westwood, their softball teams both played well this season and have earned awards for their play. The Class 2A District 19 awards are as follows:

Elkhart’s Courtney Lindsey was named for Defensive Player of the Year. Westwood’s Courtney Stanhope was named as the First Team All-District catcher. Elkhart’s Camryn Rucker and Catie Bridges were named to the First Team infield. Westwood’s Corbyn Bassett was named to the Second Team infield. On the First Team outfield, Elkhart’s Megan Davis and Westwood’s Mi’Kayla Benson received the honors. And on the Second Team outfield is Westwood’s Savannah Campbell.

The Honorable Mentions for the All-District teams include Westwood’s Shelby Gabbard, Kristin Hargrave and Marina Powell, and for Elkhart, Robin Grant, Tiffany Rosas, Courtney Cheatham, Sheridan Adair and Amber Mills each made the team.
