Sports Briefs: Academic All-State Team announced, PHS Soccer awards and more

Dogwood Circle softball players named to Academic All-State

 

With the full results now available to the media, more Dogwood Circle softball players have been announced to the Texas Girls Coaches Association Academic All-State Team.

 

Dogwood Circle softball players who received the honor of being on the team include Neches’ Halea Kendrick and Kelsee Wade, Elkhart’s Sheridan Adair and Catie Bridges and Frankston’s Alex Porter.

 

From the TGCA: ‘The Texas Girls Coaches Association selects Academic All-State teams in softball in conferences 1A, 2A, 3A, 4A and 5A. Athletes must be seniors, must have a grade-point average of 94 or above, and must be a team member in good standing. Athletes are nominated by their member coaches. The head varsity coach must be a member in good standing of TGCA before November 1st of the school year to be eligible to nominate athletes for honors.’

 

Palestine soccer players earn East Texas honors

 

The final nominations for the soccer season are in as the Tyler Morning Telegraph selected the top players from East Texas from Class 3A to 5A, and several Palestine players were chosen.

 

For the PHS girls, Gabby Meyers and Karina Trejo made the First Team at midfielder and forward, respectively. Danielle Harroff made the list on the Second Team defense, and Honorable Mentions include Astrid Sandoval, Mackenzie Calloway and Amber Gonzalez.

 

For the boys side, Brandon Fierro made the First Team at defender and for Honorable Mentions, Bennett Gierkey, Pablo Aguilar, Wilmer Marquaz and Adrian Rodriguez made the list.

 

Westwood Lady Panthers to host annual volleyball camp

 

The Westwood Lady Panthers will host its annual volleyball camp from July 28 through July 31.

 

The camp will be from 8 a.m. to noon each day, and the cost of the camp will be $40.

 

The camp is open to Anderson County girls entering fourth grade through 12th grade.
