H.S. Basketball: Slocum's girls squad is turning out to be exactly what people thought in preseason

SLOCUM — The Slocum Lady Mustangs (5-1) faced District 3A Pollok Central HS at the Slocum HS  for Slocum's homecoming game in which the Lady Mustangs won, 48-39.

Central took the tip off and quickly scored the first two points.  Slocum responded with 10-straight points to take a 10-2 lead.  Central's defense picked up and held Slocum to five points while Central added eight to their side.  The first quarter score was 15-10 for Slocum with two minutes left in the quarter.

The second quarter had turnovers and missed shots by both teams as they aggressively played the ball.  Slocum managed eight points to only four for Central to close out the half  with Slocum leading Central, 23-14. 

Both teams came out in the second half and neither could take charge of the game.  Central outscored Slocum 12-11 in the third quarter and were down 34 to 26. 

The fourth quarter was even with Slocum maintaining its lead and scoring 14 points to Central's 13.

The high scorer for Slocum was Jordan Ives with 16 points.  Valerie Larkin and Landry Lane both had nine points each for the Lady Mustangs. Britney Lively hit two three-point shots.

Slocum's next game is on Tuesday against Douglass.
