District track and field meets have started across the Dogwood Circle, and several local teams participated in the preliminaries on Wednesday.
Palestine, Westwood, Elkhart and Cayuga each had athletes participate in track and field events throughout the first day of the events.
For Palestine, in the varsity girls high jump, Rokayah Beavers finished third and Nakoshia Handsborough finished at no height.
In pole vault, Summer Hagan finished fourth, Stevie Ybarra tied for seventh and Monica Attaway finished with no height.
In long jump, Handsborough finished in fifth, Ladashia Johnson finished seventh and Lacey Tillis finished eighth.
In triple jump, Marsha Warren finished first, Breanna Jackson finished second and Arion Sandifer finished fourth.
In shot put, Tillis finished third, Leslie Gonzalez finished fifth and Taylor Brown finished eighth.
In discus, Brown finished fifth, Tillis finished sixth and Kaya Duncan finished seventh.
For the Palestine varsity boys, in the 3200M run, Tyler Barnard finished first, Manny Romero finished second and Christian Posada finished with no time.
In the high jump, Tony Butler finished tied for first, Marcus Robinson finished third and Jhamonte Milton finished sixth.
In pole vault, Nicholas Clewis-Jones finished tied for third, Alan Marquez finished sixth and Jaden Mitchell finished seventh.
In long jump, Malik Johnson finished second, Cameron Barrett finished fifth and Fabian (Gee) Clark finished eighth.
In triple jump, Milton finished fifth and Devan Johnson finished eighth.
In shot put, Dakedrick McMorris finished second, Eric Gonzalez finished third and Joe Eden finished sixth.
In discus, Tyvarous Swindle finished third.
After the preliminaries, the Palestine girls are in second place with 45 points, and the Palestine boys are in first place with 72.5 points.
The Lady Elks were in good form on Wednesday as they took to the track and field events.
In the 3200M run, Melanie Barnett finished second, Anna Clark finished third and Viri Saldana finished fifth.
In triple jump, Ashley Buck finished third and Lauren Brown finished sixth.
In discus, Brooklyn Facklam finished fourth and Kerstin Humphries finished sixth.
In high jump, Ruth Camp finished in second place.
In long jump, Paige Fillmore finished in fifth place.
The Lady Elks look to continue their momentum heading into today’s finals.
The Wildcats and Ladycats also were in action on Wednesday in their district track and field event.
After the first day, Cayuga’s varsity boys lead with 54 total team points. The Ladycats were in third with 36 total team points.
