H.S. Track and Field: Day Two of District Meets is in the books

PALESTINE —

Most of the Dogwood Circle teams were in action in the final runs of their district meets on Thursday with the top four athletes in each event advancing to the Area round.

 

Cayuga had its event in Cayuga, Palestine had its in Palestine, Elkhart and Westwood were both in Crockett, Grapeland was in Lovelady and Oakwood was in Douglass.

 

The Cayuga Wildcats and Ladycats each had solid performances on the second day of action in the District 18-1A meet on Thursday.

 

The Wildcats won the event with a team total of 160 points, which was 51 points ahead of second place. The Ladycats placed third behind Kerens (134 team points) and Dawson (108 team points) with a score of 101 team points.

 

The Ladycats got off to a hot start early as they took home first place in the 100M hurdles with Anika Barbosa setting the tempo with a time of 17.56.

 

From there, Cayuga went on to place well in the other events on the day.

 

In the 100M dash, Emma Ricard placed first with a time of 13.68 and Grace-Ann Kelley placed second with a time of 14.00.

 

Ricard continued her dominance as she finished first in the 400M dash with a time of 1:03.18.

 

In the 800M run, Maci Poland placed fourth with a time of 2:49.71 and Sydney Turner finished sixth with a time of 2:50.40.

 

In the 300M hurdles, Bradi Brownlow finished fourth with a time of 58.11.

 

In the 400M relay, the team of Bailey Wilson, Kelley, Paige Boxie and Barbosa finished in third place with a time of 53.34.

 

In the 800M relay, the team of Wilson, Turner, Britney Longmiles and Alyssa Jenkins placed fourth with a time of 2:00.91.

 

For the Cayuga Wildcats, in the 100M dash, Keshawn Jackson showed his speed as he finished third with a time of 12.00. Jimmy Pitts finished fifth with a time of 12.24 and Garrett Gunnels finished seventh with a time of 12.37.
