H.S. Baseball: Elkhart seniors honored on 19-2A all-district team

After putting together one of the strongest four-year careers in Elkhart baseball history, the 2013 Elks senior class was highly honored on the recently released 19-2A all-district teams.

Three of the Elks — all of whom are college career-bound — earned superlative honors from the district, with catcher Levi Smith — a Stephen F. Austin University signee — earning Defensive Player of the Year honors.

Cisco College-bound Infielder Jacob Cheatham was named the league’s Offensive Player of the Year, while Howard College-bound pitcher Jordan White was named the district’s Pitcher of the Year.

Also earning high honors were infielders Cole Bridges and Brian Johnson, with both seniors landing on the district’s first team.

Elkhart freshman Jackson Adair capped an impressive freshman season by sharing Utility Player of the Year honors with Central Heights senior Brady Clifton.

Also earning first team honors for Elkhart were junior pitcher Hunter Parker, sophomore outfielder Cullen Adams and sophomore designated hitter Mason Huffines.

Westwood senior Lane Stringfield was also a first team player for his play in the Panthers’ infield.

Westwood freshman infielder Korbin Boles was a second team selection.

Central Heights star Alex Phillips was named the district’s Most Valuable Player, while teammate Zach Johnson shared Newcomer of the Year honors with Garrison’s Michael Feaster.

Garrison’s Paul Stokes was named the league’s top catcher.
