PALESTINE —

Frankston was able to hold off the Hawks in the second half, as Hawkins outscored Frankston 28-23.

Frankston’s next match is against Winona on the road on Friday night.

Frankston (VG) 79, Hawkins 43

The Frankston Maidens had a rough start to their matchup against Hawkins, but found their footing in the second quarter to blowout the Lady Hawks 79-43.

After a 13-12 lead following the first quarter, Frankston’s defense and size advantage showed itself in the second quarter as the Maidens were able to outscore the Lady Hawks 27-8 to bring the halftime score to 40-20.

Frankston’s Gray finished the night with 19 points and six rebounds for the Maidens. Her points and defense helped the Maidens extend their lead in the second quarter.

After halftime, the Maidens came out with the same defensive pressure that they started with, allowing just 12 points in the third quarter.

Frankston’s Kummer and Erickson each finished with 10 points and seven rebounds and Cooper finished with six points and seven rebounds.

The spreading of the scoring and defensive plays is what allowed the Maidens to be able to put away the Lady Hawks in the fourth quarter.

In the fourth, it was too little too late for the Lady Hawks as they were outscored again 16-11. Frankston moves to 7-3 in district play and will face Winona on Friday.
