Gregory Shaw is back after his recent success with Camp Shaw, a football camp for high schoolers.
On July 18-19, Shaw will host Camp Shaw Junior for kids ages 5 to 12 at Calhoun Park.
Shaw said the biggest reason he’s doing this second camp is because he knows how much it means to have someone to look up to, and he is hoping that by giving back, kids can learn to follow their dreams and stay motivated to work hard and play hard.
“Camp Shaw Junior is a football camp that we’re putting on at Calhoun Park,” Shaw said. “This time around, we’re going to have the camp be two days long, because I feel like with the younger kids, you have to grab their attention for a long time by doing things in short bursts. I plan on doing a lot of different drills with them and just learn the fundamentals of football.
“We really just want them to come out and have some fun, as well.”
The camp will be split up into two sections on the two days. Session one will be on Friday and Saturday from 8 to 11 a.m. for ages 5 to 8.
From noon to 3 p.m. on both days will be session two for ages 9 to 12.
“I believe in teaching these kids the R.E.A.L. philosophy,” Shaw said. “That means I want these kids to Resist passiveness, Engage in the Lord, Accept responsibility for your actions and we want them to Lead courageously. Those four things are what we want to be teaching these kids. I feel like if these kids can learn that, then everything else will just start to fall into place. We’ll give them positive things to look forward to, also. So not only are we having fun, but we’re teaching them how to be better, R.E.A.L. People.”
