— The Palestine Middle School girls’ athletic coaches selected two Character Athletes for the month of October recently, singling out eighth-grader Adrianna Ferretiz and seventh-grader Diana Serralde for the honors.

Ferretiz plays basketball for the Lady Wildcats, and is described as “very enjoyable” to be around.

The coaches characterized her as “well-mannered as well as an excellent student in class.”

Along with athletics, Ferretiz is involved in one-act play and is an honor roll student.

Serralde plays volleyball and is “a great example in the classroom,” according to her coaches.

Coaches describe her as eager to learn and a hard worker, who is also very attentive.

Serralde is also an honor roll student, and is also involved in the Duke Tip Program, which is a talent search program that identifies academically-talented seventh graders based on standardized test scores.

As a reward for their selections for their awards, both Ferretiz and Serralde earn dinner with two of their coaches.
