H.S. Soccer: PHS Ladycats win 3-1 in morning match

The Palestine Ladycats soccer team was in action on Friday morning in the East Texas Shootout Soccer Tournament held in Palestine, and they won their morning match 3-1.

The Ladycats came out with a goal in the first half followed by a quick goal at the beginning of the second half.

Palestine coach John Absalom said he was happy with the way the game was played overall by the Wildcats, but said he expects not to give up many more goals this season.

“I thought we played really well,” Absalom said. “We didn’t really want to give up that goal and we had a lapse in judgment right there in giving up that goal. That was the only threat they had all game, but that’s just the way soccer goes sometimes.

“I thought the kids played well,” he added. “We still have to work on finishing out. We had a lot of missed opportunities that we could have had, and we just need to get those minor things fixed moving forward.”

Senior captain Danielle Harroff was a driving force for this Palestine squad. Her leadership, Absalom said, is what made her performance today a great one.

“I thought Danielle Harroff played well today,” Absalom said. “She helped control the backfield and she did a good job of it. I just really thought the team in general had a great overall performance today, but if I had to pick out someone’s performance, it definitely would’ve been Harroff.”

The Ladycats’ win propelled them further in the tournament and will have them in a good spot to play for today’s championship match.

For today, the semi-finals matches are in the morning, followed by the championship match in the afternoon around 4 p.m.
