— After a stellar regular season that saw them capture a district title, then a solid playoff run that ended with a regional quarterfinal loss to Grapeland, the Cayuga softball team showed well on the District 19-A all-district teams.

Cayuga star freshman pitcher Kimberly Hughes capped her stellar year by earning the district’s Most Valuable Player award. Joining Hughes in earning superlative honors was her battery-mate Maci Poland, who was named the league’s Defensive MVP.

Neches nabbed two superlatives of its own, with Kelsee Wade earning Offensive MVP honors and Katie Greve winning the Queen of the Circle award for the district’s best pitcher.

Cayuga’s Reann Richards, Presley Luce and Molly Griffey all earned first-team honors, as did Neches’ McKay-Lee Chapman, Saraya Tyner and Kristen Dixon.

Macie Croft, Meagan Poland and Shelby Luce from Cayuga, and Kylee TImmons, Halea Kendrick and Megan Parrick from Neches were named to the second team.

Honorable mention honorees included Cayuga’s Madeline Jeffcoat, Jana Walthall, Megan Hodge and Kathleen Lackey.

19-3A softball all-district

After another strong season in all sports —including on the softball field — Palestine’s Dana Whitehead was honored with Utility Player of the Year on the recently released District 19-3A all-district softball team.

Whitehead was the lone first teamer for the Wildcats, who saw catcher Maribel Estrada earn second team honors. Gabby Hudson was named a second team outfielder as well.

A trio of Ladycats — Amariz Ordonez, Liz Cone and Destiny Gage — were all named to the honorable mention list.

18-2A Baseball all-district

Justice Bean led the Frankston baseball team contingent honored with all-district honors on the recently released 18-2A team.

Bean was named a first team infielder, the lone Indian to earn a first team nod.

Waylon Morris earned second team pitcher honors, while Hunter Mewbourn was tabbed as a second team catcher.

Joining the pair on the second team were Cole Shoemaker, who was named to the second team outfield, and Tye Sheridan, was named a second team designated hitter.

Jordan Thomas earned honorable mention accolades.
