H.S. Baseball: Elks bounce-back with 2-0 day on I-20

The Elkhart baseball team doesn’t believe in losing streaks.

The third-ranked Elks bounced back from a 9-4 loss at the hands of White Oak Thursday to go 2-0 on Friday at the I-20 Classic in Canton.

In the day’s opener, the Elks rolled over Pollock Central, 12-1, and then shut out Canton, 5-0, in the day’s finale.

The Elks haven’t lost consecutive games since May 2011.

Thursday, Elkhart had the early lead thanks to two first inning runs. But, White Oak scored the next five runs and held on from there.

Elkhart scored two runs on singles from Cheatham and Bridges in the bottom of the fifth to cut the lead to 5-4 Roughnecks, but White Oak answered with three runs in the sixth and one in the seventh to pull away.

Elkhart wraps up play in the event today in Van, when they take on Mabank at 10 a.m.

CAYUGA 15, Trinidad 0

So far in district play, the Cayuga baseball team has been almost untouchable.

The Wildcats rolled over Trinidad, 15-0, Friday behind perfect 3-for-3 nights at the plate from Payton Wallace and Hunter Johnson. With that win, Cayuga is 2-0 in district play, outscoring its opponents 44-0.

Chantz Holland got the win on the mound for the Wildcats, and moved to 4-1 on the year.

Cayuga (8-2, 2-0) plays at 5 p.m. Tuesday in Cross Roads.
